The Pacifica Net citywide Wi-Fi network has officially begun deployment.
As reported in the Pacifica Tribune earlier today, we’ve begun installing the first of the Access Points that will provide wireless broadband Internet access for the first phase and ultimately across the rest of Pacifica. We should have more news about the location of the first phase next week after we complete a few final design details. I’ll work on getting a few icturesup.

I look forward to finding out how much this will cost and what the coverage area will be. I imagine I could chuck my T-Mobile Hot Spot (which is $20 per month since I have their cell phone service) in favor of your service. The key is going to be whether I can access your service in all the places I need throughout Pacifica and if you will have cooperative plans with other companies since I travel with my laptop outside of Pacifica. If it was cheap enough, I could see subscribing to this in addition to my T-Mobile — but it would have to be pretty inexpensive for me to do that. In any case, this is exciting! Best of luck to you!

I thought that this wi-fi was to be free of charge to Pacifica residents??

Thanks for the comments.
We haven’t announced our pricing yet because we haven’t finalized our slate of services. We will certainly strive to offer services that afford a very high-value experience and we will offer those at n honest price. There won’t be any hidden charges or mysterious fees that you are confusing to people. We will offer a service for a price and that’s the price that will end up on a monthly bill.
Once the network is up and running, we will also offer an “early bird” special price. This will be offered to people who sign up with us in the early timeframe and will offer a discount off of the normal retail price.
Next week we will have more news on the first phase of the deployment (location, schedule, etc.).
